Emir of Shonga, Dr Haliru Ndanusa Yahaya and the people of the area have appealed to government at all levels, philanthropic organisations and spirited individuals to come to the aid of flood victims in Shonga District of Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State
This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the President of Shonga Descendant Development Union, SHEDU, Alhaji Umar Abdullahi Shaba and the Public Relations Officer, Dr Abubakar Mohammed Efuman on behave of the Emir and the affected victims.
According to the statement, about Twenty communities and part of Shonga town were affected by flood which ravage the area destroying property worth millions of naira.
The statement notes that most of the affected people have been trapped while those who escaped have become refugees in the neighbouring communities as they were rendered homeless.
The affected communities include Shonga Tada, Chiji Yimagi, Kpiliagi, Kusogi ‘Ogudu, Kpatako, Kochegi and Kpataringi,
Others are Bafinta, Tunga Lemu, Tunga Nabaza, Gonadogo, Ndachesaba among others.
The flood which was said to have been caused by heavy rainfall as well as Kainji and Jebba Dam spilling washed away farm lands especially rice plantations and livestock.
Alhaji Umar Abdullahi Shaba who is also the Talban of Shonga and Dr Abubakar Mohammed Efuman lamented on the plight of the affected people and appealed to the Federal, State, Local Governments, well to do individuals and organisations to assist them.
